Founder & Principal

Carlos Fulton

Carlos founded Vanguard after recognizing a persistent gap in residential remodeling and custom construction: clients were being asked to make consequential decisions without a clear understanding of feasibility, cost, risk, or what would happen next.

Working in residential construction since 2014, Carlos brings experience across estimating, project leadership, trade coordination, restoration, and complex remodel planning. Before entering residential construction, he worked in commercial landscape and irrigation—an early foundation in sequencing, field conditions, and the coordination required to turn plans into finished environments.

Today, Carlos establishes each Vanguard engagement and remains involved at the moments that carry the most consequence: early alignment, major scope and budget decisions, key field milestones, and closeout. A named project lead carries day-to-day coordination so clients always know who owns the next step.

On a recent full-gut remodel, a client wanted to add a butler's pantry while remaining disciplined about the overall budget. The true cost was not limited to cabinetry and finishes; it touched the floor plan, walls, roofline, and surrounding work. Careful planning and estimating reduced that complexity to a clear choice: what the pantry would add, what it would displace, and whether it mattered more than the budget target.

Carlos's approach to service was shaped during years in hospitality under a James Beard Award–winning chef. The standard was to anticipate what guests needed, appear at the right moment, and otherwise let their experience remain their own.

Vanguard brings that same discipline to construction. Clients receive timely guidance when decisions matter, while the project lead, Carlos, and the broader team absorb coordination and problem-solving behind the scenes. The goal is not to pull a homeowner into every trench. It is to make ownership clear before they ever have to ask.

A personal foundation

Responsibility begins at home.

Before he is a founder or builder, Carlos is a husband and father to two daughters. His family is the center of his life and the source of the care, responsibility, and long-term thinking he brings to his work. A Richardson native, he now serves homeowners throughout North Texas and the greater metroplex on large remodels, additions, and outdoor living and pool projects.

For every engagement, Vanguard assembles and leads a trusted network of independent architects, designers, engineers, specialty consultants, and trades selected for the needs of the project.
